Plot to attack, arrest activists of Islamic Movement in Zaria uncover



The plot to continue attacking and arresting activists of the Islamic Movement living in Zaria, Kaduna State uncovered. The Area commandant of the Nigerian Police in Zaria has vowed to continue the persecution of the activists of the Islamic movement.

On Monday evening, 6/6/2022, the activists of the Islamic Movement staged another protest calling on the Nigerian government to release Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife's passport to seek medical treatment. The protest was attacked by the Nigerian police. 

The procession started from M.T.D Junction Sabon Gari walking peacefully and chanting many slogans to call for the release of El-Zakzaky’s passport. Upon reaching Kano round-about, the Nigerian security forces attacked the protesters with sticks and live ammunition. No injuries were reported as of now, but 28 people were arrested; 24 women and 4 men including an infant.

The baby's mother handed him over to a sister during the peaceful protest. After the attack by the Police, the sister was arrested along with the baby.

The arrested peaceful protesters including an infant were illegally detained at the Police Headquarters’ in Zaria, Kaduna State. Despite all efforts to rescue at least the infant yesternight, the police denied the mother access to her baby.

The Area Commandant of the Nigerian Police Force in Zaria vowed to ‘decisively deal with the activists of the Islamic movement in Zaria’ and make ‘life uncomfortable’ for them.

About 10 activists of the movement were illegally arrested two weeks ago at their business premises. They were all remanded in Kaduna prison after they were arraigned in court for concocted charges.
